In April 1942, the Crimean Peninsula was declared Judenfrei ΓÇöcleansed of Jews. When the Axis occupied most of the Crimea in October 1941, the area had a Jewish population of 50,000-60,000. They were murdered by the Einsatzgruppen units, with active assistance from the local population.
